Director’s project description:
I made this little film on commission from the Chamber of Fashion to remember Beppe Modenese, a person I didn’t know but who I loved discovering afterwards in the TV archives and in the many places we somehow shared.
I chose to portray him through the city and to tell the story of the city through the words of a lifetime.
Modenese has become the image of a world that no longer exists, dense with a 20th-century culture, full of competence, values, etiquette, composure, education, a certain humble reasonableness in facing crises and daily deluges.
This film contains a small part of the restlessness and questions that have remained unanswered during these surreal months. They are individual questions, of course, but also broader questions, related to the future of this city and the world of ‘fashion’ which is one of its main souls.
I have tried to write about this restlessness within elegance. It’s there, but you can’t see it, it’s hidden in the sounds, in the skillful folds of Caraceni’s tailor’s clothes.
I have tried to immerse myself in this life, to compose this tribute in a language that has so little in common with the fast and brilliant language to which fashion has accustomed us.
